Driving around Cambridge Airport

The A1303 is the main route running to and from Cambridge Airport. Westbound, it travels towards Cambridge city centre and eastbound it joins with the A14. In turn, the A14 travels west to join the M11 motorway and east to Bury St Edmunds and Ipswich.

It takes between 10 and 15 minutes to drive from Cambridge Airport to Cambridge city centre. Drivers should take the A1303, the A1134 and then the A603 into the centre. There are a number of car parks to choose from in the city centre. Parking is usually charged at a reduced rate in the evenings and costs up to £2.60 per hour during the day. A cheaper option is Cambridge’s park and ride scheme. There are various park and ride car parks located on the outskirts of the city. The car parks are open 24 hours a day and it costs £1 to park for up to 18 hours plus between £2.40 and £4.10 for a bus ride into the city centre.


The market town of Thetford sits just south of Thetford Forest Park. As well as beautiful natural scenery on its doorstep, the town offers a range of attractions. There’s the Ancient House Museum telling the story of Thetford through the ages, the Dad’s Army Museum telling the story of the famous TV show and the Charles Burrell Museum which explores some of the town’s industrial history.
Thetford is around 35 minutes’ drive from Cambridge Airport, taking A1303 and A14 east before picking up the A11 heading northeast. Drivers will find a selection of town centre car parks and some street spaces too.

King’s Lynn

King’s Lynn is a sea port and market town offering easy access to the Norfolk coastline. The historic town is home to cobbled streets, old merchants’ houses and two impressive marketplaces. The Maritime Trail gives visitors an insight into the trading, navigational and fishing history of King’s Lynn whilst the vibrant city centre boasts arts venues, modern shops and excellent restaurants.
It takes just over an hour to drive from Cambridge Airport to King’s Lynn. Drivers should take the A1303 and then the A14 west before heading north on the A10. There are lots of parking options around the town with council operated car parks charging around £1.40 per hour. Charges apply 24 hours a day, every day of the week, including Sundays and Bank Holidays.
