Where to hire a car at Boise Airport

There’s a good choice of car hire companies operating at Boise Airport. Avis, Alamo, Dollar, Hertz, National, Thrifty, Dollar and Enterprise all have offices on the first floor of the arrivals terminal. Hire cars are located in the car park accessed via the terminal exit next to the baggage reclaim area.

Petrol Stations near Boise Airport

If you need to return your hire car with a full tank of petrol, you’ll find a garage located just at the airport entrance. It’s a Chevron petrol station on South Vista Avenue, just before you get to West Airport Way, the circular route around the airport grounds.

Driving around Boise Airport

Route 84 is the main road travelling to and from Boise Airport. It travels northwest towards the state border with Oregon and southeast towards Burley and the state border with Utah. It also provides connections to route 184 and route 26 which both head into Boise city centre and route 55 which goes north towards Cascade and McCall.

Roads around the airport are well-maintained and well-signposted. You can visit the Idaho Transportation Department website for traffic updates which may affect your journey to or from the airport. If you’re planning to journey beyond Idaho into other states, it’s worth checking with your car hire company as to any extra charges associated with doing so.

Getting to your destination

When you hire a car from Boise Airport it’s easy to get to a great selection of Idaho destinations. Here are just a few of them:


Boise is Idaho’s capital city. It sits at the base of the Rocky Mountains and offers a variety of outdoor activities, both within the city and in the surrounding area. There’s a pedestrian road for walkers and cyclists that travels through the city centre. The city is also home to pretty parks, a botanical garden, a bird of prey centre, galleries and theatres.

It takes just 10 minutes to get from Boise Airport to Boise city centre. It’s possible to take either South Visa Avenue, route 20 or route 184. The city is laid out on a grid system so it’s relatively easy to navigate as long as you remember that there are diagonal sections as well as north south sections.

The city has plenty of parking options including street parking, free for the first 20 minutes and free in the evenings and at weekends. There are also a number of public garages where you’ll pay $2.50 per hour up to a maximum of $12 per day.

Bruneau Dunes State Park

Bruneau Dunes State Park is located to the south of Boise. The park isn’t just home to sand dunes. There are also prairie, lake and marsh landscapes, all with incredible scenery and wildlife. Visitors can go fishing, birdwatching, swimming or hiking and can spend the night either camping under the stars or in one the park’s cabins.

Bruneau Dunes State Park is an hour’s drive from Boise Airport, taking route 84 southeast to Mountain Home before picking up route 51. It costs $5 per vehicle to enter the park and there are plenty of parking options to choose from. The Visitor Center can give advice on routes and parking depending on your chosen activities.

Twin Falls

The city of Twin Falls is one of the largest in Idaho. It’s famous for its waterfalls and the Snake River Canyon, which Evel Knievel tried to jump back in the 1970s. Shoshone Falls is popularly known as the “Niagara of the West” and provides walking routes, picnic spots and spectacular views of the 212 feet tall waterfalls.

It’s an hour and fifty minutes’ drive from Boise Airport to Twin Falls, heading southeast on route 84. The city is laid out over a grid system and offers parking facilities in both the centre and on the outskirts. If you’re driving to Shoshone Falls, there’s a small fee payable per vehicle to enter the park.
