Toronto Pearson International Airport, Toronto, Canada

Toronto Pearson International Airport is Canada's largest and busiest airport. It's the 15th busiest airport in the world in terms of flight numbers, handling more than 41 million people each year. It also has the second highest number of international passengers in North America, after New York's JFK.

Most of the airport is actually located in the neighbouring city of Mississauga, 23km from downtown Toronto. The facility is named in honour of former Canadian Prime Minister and Nobel Peace Prize winner Lester B. Pearson, who was born in Toronto. Its unusual IATA airport code 'YYZ' remains a mystery, but was immortalised in an instrumental of the same name by local rock band Rush.

As well as being the primary hub of national airline Air Canada, Toronto Pearson International handles flights from over 75 airlines to destinations on six continents worldwide. More than 1,000 flights depart daily with carriers such as American Airlines, Delta, Lufthansa, United and others.

The airport has two passenger terminals, which are connected by a 24-hour link train. Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 both handle domestic and international flights, the difference being in the airlines that use each terminal.

T1 and T3 each offer a wide range of facilities that passengers can make use of before or after their flights, from restaurants and shops to financial services. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the terminals, and T1 even features an art gallery with permanent and seasonal exhibitions.
