Christmas Island Airport

Christmas Island Airport is located on Irvine Road on Christmas Island, an Australian territory in the Indian Ocean. The airport is situated on the eastern end of the island, and is the base for flights to and from Perth via Learmonth (Exmouth) in Western Australia, as well as Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.

Due to the fact that international flights are run from this terminal, all passengers must go through security checks on departure from the island, as well as quarantine and customs checks. If you are travelling from Christmas Island to Australia you only need to provide photo ID on the day of departure, but if you book a flight to Kuala Lumpur you must present a valid passport. Check in opens two hours prior to takeoff.

The airport is only tiny, but does have a kiosk that is staffed by local volunteers where you can purchase cool drinks and other items. All proceeds from the sales at the kiosk are provided to local and Western Australian charities. At the airport you will also find a Gold n Things duty-free store, plus restrooms (including disabled toilets) and baby change facilities.

This information is correct as of March 2016.
