San Francisco International Airport

San Francisco International Airport is the largest airport in the Bay Area and is the second busiest in California, fifth largest hub of United Airlines, and also serves as Virgin America's principal base of operations. The airport is located 21 kilometres (13 miles) south of downtown San Francisco, California and services flights to points throughout North America and is a major aviation gateway to Europe and Asia.


San Francisco International Airport has 4 terminals. Terminal 1 holds the boarding areas B and C, Terminal 2 holds boarding area D, and Terminal 3 holds boarding areas E and F. All three serves domestic flights including pre-cleared flights from Canada. Terminal 4, more commonly known as the International Terminal and holds boarding areas A and G, handle international flights and some domestic flights.

AirTrain is the primary intra-airport transport in San Francisco International. It is fully automated and free of charge. It connects all four terminals, the two international terminal garages, the BART station, and the airport's Rental Car Center.

There are a lot of restaurants serving different cuisines inside the airport as well as shops from books, gadgets, beauty products, jewelleries, and many more. The SFO Museum presents a series of rotating exhibitions displayed in the terminal galleries. There are Kids' Spots perfect for those travelling with children, a reflection room for self-reflection and meditation, and a Christian Science reading room, as well as spas and yoga room. For those travelling with pets, there are animal relief areas in all terminals, ATMs, cellphone rentals, charging units, telephone booths, WiFi, DVD rentals, companion care restroom facilities, and currency exchange. The airport also offers medical services. The Wag Brigade let passengers play with trained dogs to make the travel more enjoyable.

Driving hide 

The airport is located on U.S. Route 101, 21 km (13 miles) south of downtown San Francisco, near the US 101 interchange with Interstate 380, a short freeway that connects US 101 with Intestate 280.

Trains hide 

The San Francisco International Airport BART Station is the only direct rail link between the airport, the city of San Francisco, and the general Bay Area. It is located in the Parking Garage G of the International Terminal.

Buses hide 

SamTrans, San Mateo County's transit agency provide services to the airport with three lines, 292, 397, and KX, connecting Terminal 2, Terminal 3, and the International Terminal to downtown San Francisco and the Peninsula, down to Paolo Alto. Routes 292 and KX serve the airport during morning, daytime, and evening hours while Route 397 serves the airport during nighttime as a part of the SamTrans “All Nighter” service.
