Riverside March AFB Airport

Riverside March AFB, also called March Air Reserve Base and formerly the March Air Force Base (March AFB), is an Air Force Reserve Command air base located between the cities of Riverside and Moreno Valley, in California's Riverside County. The base houses the AFRC's 4th Air Force Headquarters. The host unit at Riverside March AFB is the 452d Air Mobility Wing (452 AMW), the largest air mobility wing of the 4th Air Force. The Riverside March AFB also provides host base support for units from the Navy Reserve, Marine Corps Reserve, Army Reserve, and the California Air National Guard.

An annual event hosted at the base is the March Field Airfest, also called the Thunder Over the Empire, which is held every March. It is a biennial air show, and is one of the largest events in the Inland Empire and Riverside County. The event features military and civilian demonstrations and shows by the United States Air Force Thunderbirds. Other activities include F-16C/D alert site operations of the California Air National Guard's 144th Fighter Wing (144 FW), and civilian agency flight activities such as the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Air Unit and a California Department of Forestry air unit. Additionally, it also serves as a base for primary flight training with a maximum capacity of 300 students for an eight-week course. After a long history of being involved with several wars, including World War I, World War II, Korean War, Cold War, and Vietnam War, the former March AFB land was no longer needed due to the

downsizing given to the March Joint Powers Authority. There have been discussions for possible redevelopment or to convert the base into a joint civil-military public use airport.

The nearest major public airport is the LA/Ontario International Airport, located about two miles east of downtown Ontario. The airport is served by airlines Aeromexico, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Delta Connection, Southwest Airlines, United Express, US Airways, US Airways Express, and Volaris  to provide flights to the following cities: Guadalajara, Seattle/Tacoma, Portland (OR), Dallas, Salt Lake City, Chicago, Denver, Las Vegas, Oakland, Phoenix, Sacramento, San Jose (CA), Houston, and San Francisco.
