 Puerto Princesa (Palawan) Airport

Puerto Princesa International Airport (PPS)

Puerto Princesa is the capital of Palawan, one of the most beautiful regions in the Philippines. This city, and the greater area of Palawan is served by the Puerto Princesa International Airport (PPS). This airport is the primary gateway for travellers wanting to explore the stunning coastline of this archipelago, and the incredible underground river of Puerto Princesa, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The airport was established in World War 2, and since then has not undergone that much modernisation, and you’ll find that this compact facility only really has basic amenities. However, as recently as 2014 the airport was approved for a large expansion project, worth $82.9 million USD, due to be completed in 2017, and the facility is looking to update all of its amenities.

Meanwhile, there are limited dining and shopping options, and no banking or communication amenities, so it is advised that you take care of any of these needs at your origin point, or when you get into town. Currently this airport handles over a million passengers, and flies to four direct destinations, with one of the routes being to Taipei (TPE) in Taiwan.

Find your way to this lovely part of the world through either Cebu Pacific or Philippine Airlines.

Travel Information

·         The airport is right in town, roughly 100 metres from the main street, so you won’t need to drive there. However, as this is a gorgeous island, renting a car can help you see the best parts of the island. Organising a car ahead of time will is advised, especially as with any island you are subject to tighter supply and demand restrictions. Book a rental car online with Skyscanner, and you can be sure of a vehicle for the duration of your stay.

·         You won’t find public bus routes from this airport (as it is unnecessary), but there are jeepney services that you can take into town. If you’re not planning on staying in town, and are heading to the other end of the island, you can sort out an airport transfer before you depart, that will meet you when you arrive.

·         There aren’t really any taxis in this city, as generally the transport-for-hire services are in the form of tricycles. You should expect a journey in one of these to cost about 50PHP ($1.30) per passenger.

Please note that information is correct as of January 2017.
