New Orleans Lakefront Airport

The New Orleans Lakefront Airport is a public airport owned by the Orleans Levee District. It serves the city of New Orleans, a community in Louisiana, USA. It is included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2011-2015, which categorised it as a general aviation/reliever airport.

Originally the major commercial airport in the New Orleans CBD, the New Orleans Lakefront Airport was replaced by the Louis Armstrong International Airport in the suburb of Kenner. The airport was now reduced to a general aviation airport, with charter, private, and occasional military operations taking place. It also has a number of commercial airline services, along with other facilities.

The Lakefront was previously damaged by hurricane-force winds and the storm surge of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, and a number of hangars and outlying buildings were destroyed. Although the airport soon resumed its processes, restoration of the original terminal building and other facilities proceeds slowly. On a brighter note, the exterior of the main terminal was fully restored to its classic Art Deco aura.

The airport has a main terminal which handles all its services, including charters, military, and other general aviation flights. The terminal also handles non-stop services to Destin, Gulf Shores, Memphis, Oxford, and Panama City Beach via Southern Airways Express.

Services and Facilities

Apart from the airport's commercial and general aviation services, the New Orleans Lakefront Airport also caters to Fixed-Base Operators, established flight schools and academies, aircraft maintenance services, and aircraft rescue services. The airport has teams prepared to act on emergency services, including but not limited to fires, accidents, and others.
