Nice Côte d'Azur Airport

The Nice Cote d’Azur Airport (NCE) is the international gateway airport for the lovely city of Nice and the gorgeous Cote d’Azur. It is also frequently used as the hub for travellers wanting to visit the Principality of Monaco. The airport in Nice is third busiest in France, with around 12 million passengers travelling through this hub wanting to explore the charms of the French Riviera. Nice Cote d’Azur Airport is currently undergoing refurbishment of its two terminals, with Terminal 1 recently completed.

Facilities within this airport are extensive and comprehensive. Passengers will be able to access the banking and foreign exchange services, ATMs, a pharmacy, VIP lounges, visitor centres, nail bars, and free WiFi. There is a shopping promenade full of designer and duty-free shops, where you can engage in a little retail therapy whilst you are in transit. And there is an excellent selection of sit-down restaurants where you can relax and enjoy a hot meal, or visit one of the many snack and coffee bars for a quick pick-me-up.

Nice Cote d’Azur Airport offers its passengers 107 destinations in places like North America, the Middle East, North Africa and Europe. There are no direct flights from Australia, but airlines that offer connecting flights include Emirates, Qantas, British Airways, Delta, Etihad Airways and Air France. With stopovers generally being in Dubai (DXB), Hong Kong (HKG) and Paris (CDG).

Travel Information

· The airport is an easy distance of 7km away from Nice, and with light traffic, the journey shouldn’t take longer than about 15 minutes in the car. Follow the Avenue Auguste Maicon, and turn right onto the Boulevard Rene Cassin, and a left on Rue Jules Bessi, then take the ramp to Monaco/Nice-Centre. You will continue on this road (called the Voie Pierre Mathis) for 4.5km. Turn left on Rue Miollis and you will come to the main ring road of the centre of Nice town. There are several rental car agencies that stay open until at least 10:00pm, these include Hertz, Avis, Budget, Firefly, Europcar, Enterprise, Sixt, and Inter-rent, but you can also rent a car online if you’d like to organise your booking in advance.

· There are public buses, Routes 98 and 99 that run between the airport and downtown Nice. These are pretty efficient, with a journey time of about 20-30 minutes and a cost 6EUR ($9) for a one-way journey. There are also private transfer services available online, for anyone who would prefer to have their transport awaiting their arrival.

· There is a rail service that heads straight into the Nice St. Augustin railway station. You can find the airport station 500 metres away from Terminal 1, which can be difficult to get to if you are travelling with a lot of luggage or a young family. However, if you are not, this is one of the cheapest ways of getting into the city, with a ticket fare of 1.80EUR ($2.60) into central Nice.

· Taxis can be found outside both terminals, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Taking a taxi is probably the most hassle-free way into town, but you pay for the pleasure with a typical fare coming to 20-30EUR ($30-45).
