Madrid-Barajas Airport, officially called Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport, is the main international airport serving Madrid. Located about 15km from Madrid city centre by road, it is tied with Paris Charles De-Gaulle airport for being the largest airport in Europe by size.

Madrid Airport is a large and modern airport offering a large number of passenger facilities and amenities. The airport consists of four terminals - Terminal 1, 2, 3, and the double-building Terminal 4.

There is free Wi-Fi available throughout the entire airport, and there is no time limit. To access faster speeds, you can purchase a premium Wi-Fi service in blocks of 24 hours or 30 days at a time. Foreign Currency exchange services are located in T1, T3, and T4 only.

The airport also offers a number of VIP lounges where passengers can enjoy complimentary catering, newspapers, comfortable seating, and personalised information. Passengers may access these lounges with a Priority Pass, which can be purchased online, and can be used at over 850 other airports around the world.

Other services available for passengers in various terminals include baggage wrapping, prayer rooms, children’s play areas (T1, T2, and T4 only), conference rooms, and an unaccompanied child lounge (located in T4, for children travelling with Iberia only).

Travel Information

Transport options to and from Madrid Airport are plentiful, and include metro, train, taxi, public buses, hotel shuttle buses, and car rental.

Metro line 8 (Nuevos Ministerios - Aeropuerto T4) runs between Madrid city to the airport T4, stopping at "Aeropuerto T1 T2 T3" in between. Travel time is around 13-15 minutes to reach "Aeropuerto T1 T2 T3" from the city centre, and another 5 minutes to reach the stop "Aeropuerto T4”.

There is also a local train network station located at T4, connecting the airport with various stops in the city centre of Madrid. Single tickets cost €2.60 (around $3.80 AUD) and return tickets cost €5.20 (approx. $7.60 AUD).

There are also bus services connecting the airport with the city centre - lines 200, EXPRÉS-203, N27 EXPRÉS, and 101 all connect with the city centre, while the Intercity bus lines 822, 824, 827 and 828 connect the airport with other towns neighbouring Madrid.

Alternatively, taxis are available both to and from the airport. From the airport, taxis depart from the taxi ranks located at each terminal. A taxi from the airport to the centre of Madrid is a flat rate of €30 (approx. $43.70 AUD) one way. Travelling to the airport, passengers are advised to ensure their taxi driver uses the meter.

Driving hide 

From the city centre, take Calle Magdalena, Calle de Atocha, Paseo de la R. Cristina, Av. del Mediterráneo and M-30 to E-901/A-3. Continue onto E-901/A-3 (signs for Arganda/Valencia), take exit 6 for M-40 toward Vicálvaro/Vallecas, follow signs for M-40/R-3/Valencia/Aeropuerto/A-2/R-2/A-1/M-607, and merge onto M-40. Take exit 9BA for M-14/M-21 toward E-90/A-2/Zaragoza/M-30/Av. América/Aeropuerto/San Fernando de Henares then take exit 9A on the left to merge onto M-14 toward E-90/A-2/Zaragoza/M-30/Av. América/Aeropuerto.

Trains hide 

Terminal 4 of the airport is connected to the city by Cercanias commuter train and Metro.

Buses hide 

The most convenient way of getting to the city is via the 24-hours express bus service, which passes all terminals and heads to O'Donell, Cibeles and Atocha. End of the line is at the Terminal 4 of the airport. A regular bus service operated by the EMT (Madrid Municipal Transport Company), tagged No.200, departs from the Terminal 2, passing through Terminal 1 and stops at the interchange Avenida de America, where travellers can take the Metro. There’s also a public night bus N4 that goes from Plaza Cibeles to Barajas district.
