 Lopez Island Airport

Lopez Island Airport is a public airport in Lopez Island, San Juan County, Washington, United States. It is located on the west side of the island, about 5 km south of the central business district of the Lopez village and is owned by the Port of Lopez. The airport resides at an eleveation of 209 ft / 64 m above mean sea level. It lies over an area of 50 acres, with one runway designated 16/34. The runway has an asphalt surface and measures 2,904 ft by 60 ft (885 m x 18 m).

Lopez Island, formerly Chauncey Island, is the third largest of the San Juan Islands (archipelago) in the northwest corner of the contiguous United States. It is also an unincorporated town in San Juan County, Washington. It was Vice Admiral Sir Henry Kellett, British naval officer and explorer, who renamed the island Lopez, after the Spanish naval officer Gonzalo López de Haro, who was the first European to discover the archipelago.

There are no highways in Lopez Highlands or bridges that connect it to the mainland or other islands. It only connects to other islands by ferry or by air. The ferry terminal on Lopez Island is located at the extreme north end and is the first of four stops on the Washington State Ferries' San Juan Islands run. Meanwhile, the Lopez Island Airport has regular flights to Anacortes Airport in Ancortes (Skagit County, Washington) and Bellingham International Airport in Bellingham (Whatcom County, Washington), handled by San Juan Airlines. Knemore Air operates sea planes to all the major islands from Lake Union in Seattle, and handles wheeled planes from Boeing Field in Everett. The sea planes arrive in Fisherman Bay on Lopez, while wheeled planes land at Lopez Island Airport.

Apart from the scheduled flights, there are no other services at the Lopez Island Airport. The terminal has a small waiting room, with free Wi-Fi and a phone for local or 911 calls. The restroom is a port-a-potty on the east side of the building, out by the road. Adjacent to the airport is a good nine-hole golf course called Lopez Island Golf Club. The nearest lodging, restaurants, shops, art galleries, and other commercial establishments are located approximately 4 miles from the airport.
