Ljubljana Airport

The Jose Pucnik Airport (LJU), frequently referred to as simply the Ljubljana Airport, is the most important aviation hub in Slovenia, and serves as a gateway to the country, and to its capital city of Ljubljana. It is the operations base for the flag carrying airline, Adria Airways, and its terminal buildings see the bulk of international traffic in Slovenia, with roughly 1.5 million people travelling through the Jose Pucnik Airport each year.

In terms of facilities, the Jose Pucnik Airport covers all the essentials. There are several cash machines, and a bureau de change service you can access. You will be able to connect to the free WiFi throughout the airport, and there are mobile phone booths where you can purchase a SIM for your phone, or rent a mobile for your stay.

Peckish travellers can find refreshment in one of the many restaurants, bars, and self-service cafes. You won’t find a lot in the way of shops, but there is a duty-free outlet where you can purchase tobacco, alcohol, cosmetics and fragrances, and there are a few gift shops and a general store. Other amenities include a Business Lounge, an information desk, massage chairs, and children’s play areas.

Travel Information

·         There are quite a lot of car rental agencies within the airport, and you can organise a vehicle when you arrive, or book your car online in advance. The airport is only 25km from the city centre, and so the drive should take you less than half an hour to complete. Take the A2/E61 to Route 8, which will bring you into the heart of the city.

·         Buses are the main public transportation option into Ljubljana. You can take one to the central railway station, which offers further connections around Slovenia, and Europe, or alternatively, take one into town. The one into town should cost around 4EUR ($6) and take around half an hour. If you’d prefer to book your transfers in advance, Skyscanner has an online booking service you can utilise.

·         Taxis service the airport when flights come into the airport, but this is one of the most expensive way to get into town, at roughly 40EUR ($56) for the journey.
