The Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) serves as one of Asia’s most important travel hubs, and is the busiest airport in Malaysia. Opened to the public less than a decade ago, this facility now sees almost 50 million passengers a year, and is a comprehensive and well-equipped airport. Situated around 50km from Kuala Lumpur, this airport is ideally located for anyone wanting to explore the gleaming capital of Malaysia. Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) is a great representative for the city, as passengers will find everything they need in short order. There is free WiFi available to all travellers for up to three hours within the terminals, as well as public telephones and internet kiosks for those without mobile devices. There are banks, ATMs, currency exchange services, a 24-hour clinic, a post office, pharmacies, a prayer room, and conference facilities. For shopaholics, you’ll find a large range of duty-free shops, and a huge list of designer retail outlets, including Michael Kors, Hermes and Georgio Armani. Foodies will find fast food outlers, snack counters, bars and fine dining all at their disposal.

Carriers flying to Kuala Lumpur directly from Australia are Malindo Air, Emirates, AirAsia, Air Asia X and Malaysia Airlines. You can also find connecting flights with airlines that include Etihad, KLM, Cathay Pacific, Singapore Airlines, Jetstar, Qantas, SilkAir, and Qatar Airways.

Travel Information

· Driving into Kuala Lumpur’s city centre should take around 45 minutes if you don’t encounter much traffic. You can rent a car at the airport, or before you depart for Kuala Lumpur using our car hire search tool. Head southwest on Route 26, then join the E6/AH2. Follow this road until see the Putrajaya/E20 exit, take this and continue on. After around 25km, you will see the Jalan Tun Sambathan exit from Jalan Damansara, take this and you will come directly into the city centre.

· The KLIA Ekspres is probably the fastest way into town. This is an express rail service that runs between the airport and the city centre. The journey should only take about 25 minutes, and will cost about 55MYR ($17).

· Buses also service the airport; these are cheaper than the train with a single ticket only coming to 10MYR ($3), but will also take longer (45-60 minutes). If you have a lot of luggage, or are travelling in a big group, you might prefer hiring a private shuttle service which you can book online through us.

· There are several types of taxis available to passengers, from budget versions to luxury ones. A standard budget taxi fare from the airport into town should cost between 50-80MYR ($15-25), just be sure to pick up a taxi coupon before you leave the airport to avoid scams.
