 Kuching Airport

The Kuching International Airport (KCH) is one of the most important hubs in Malaysia. This airport was established in the 1930s, and has since developed into a top travel facility for the country. This airport handily connects Malaysian nationals and international travellers to the spectacular Sarawak Region in East Malaysia, more commonly referred to as Malaysian Borneo. Kuching International Airport can also boast being one of the top five busiest airports in the country, and has stepped up its traffic to over five million people a year.

The airport updated in 2006, with a new terminal, and newer facilities. Free WiFi is available in designated sections of the terminal. There are ATMs you can utilise and a currency exchange service, for any holiday financial admin you still need to do. You will also find there is a healthy duty-free shopping outlet where you can purchase tax-free goods.

There are also a number of eateries you can grab refreshments in pre or post flight if you’re feeling peckish. If you need some guidance on the city, or the airport, there are information desks made available to transiting passengers.

Flights to Kuching from the cities and states of Australia are often operated by carriers like Jetstar, Malaysia Airlines, SilkAir, Singapore Airlines, and Qantas.

Travel Information

·         Car rental agencies with respected reputations are stationed at the airport, and you can book a car with them when you arrive, or sort out all the details online and in advance. You’ll find that the airport is only 18km from the city centre, and you can expect the drive to be around 30 minutes. Get onto the 801-2A, then take the 801-3A. Turn left onto the Jalan Datuk Marican Salleh, and continue onto the Tun Salahuddin Bridge, and continue straight and you will come into the city.

·         Taxis are the main form of transport to and from the airport in Kuching, and to take one into town, you will need to buy a taxi coupon in the main terminal.  Expect the journey to be around 20-30MYR ($5-9). There is also the option to arrange an airport transfer, which you may find to be the easiest option, especially if you are travelling with family.
