Mykonos Airport

Mykonos Airport (JMK) is the only commercial aviation facility on the beautiful Cycladic Greek island of Mykonos. An easy distance of 4km from the island’s main town, and offering direct flights from over 20 major cities in Europe, this is one of Greece’s busiest airports, serving sun-seeking travellers hoping to explore this lovely island. The airport itself is relatively new, having been opened in the 1970s, but this is a compact facility, and the list of amenities available here are not comprehensive.

However, there are enough standard facilities to suit your transiting needs until you get into town. The airport houses a branch of the Bank of Greece, and there is an ATM in the terminal. You can relax in one of the three bars in the airport, or pick up a snack at the cafeteria. There is a duty-free shop available for customers flying out of the airport, and there is a small shop with some reading materials and confectionary.

Flying from Australia to Mykonos will mean two layovers, generally in a large international hub like Doha (DOH) or Dubai (DXB), and Athens (ATH). You’ll find connecting and codeshare routes with Emirates, Aegean Airlines, Qatar Airways, Malaysia Airlines, Turkish Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Vueling, Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines, Swiss Air and Garuda Indonesia.

Travel Information

· The island is small, so you shouldn’t get lost as long as you follow the signposts for Mykonos Town. Get on Epar. Od. Mikonou, and this road will bring you directly into town. You can hire cars from Avis, Sixt, Hertz and Avance from the airport, but as this is a small island, it is always recommended to book online before you leave to ensure you have a vehicle for the duration of your stay.

· You can hop on the local bus service, which runs pretty regularly during the peak summer season (June-August) in Mykonos, and costs less than 2EUR ($3) for a ticket and takes only 10-15 minutes. If you are coming in late, or during the slower seasons, it may be advisable to organise your airport transfers ahead of time.

· You can pick up a taxi outside the terminal, and these are convenient and not too pricey. Expect the journey to take 10 minutes and cost approximately 15EUR ($22).
