Mount Isa Airport

Mount Isa Airport is a public airport that serves Mount Isa, a western Queensland city in Australia. Locals dubbed the city as “The Isa”. It is also often referred to as the Oasis of the Outback.

Several types of scheduled regional airlines in Mount Isa Airport offer flights to Brisbane, Townsville, and Cairns, as well as a number of other regional centres. The airport is owned by Mount Isa Airport Pty Ltd and operated by Queensland Airports Limited. It handled 217,525 passengers in the 2010-2011 financial year, ranking 30th in Australia for the number of revenue passengers served that period. The airport lies at an elevation of 1,121 feet (342 metres) above sea level, with one runway designated 16/34 with an asphalt surface measuring 2,560 metres × 45 metres (8,399 feet × 148 feet) and is 3.4 nautical miles (6.3km; 3.9mi) north of the city.

Mount Isa Airport has one terminal building. Since the airport only operates domestic flights, there should be no problem finding the arrivals area, which is near the departure lounge (which has two gates), and a passenger screening area before it. To enter the departure lounge, passengers will pass through security screening after they check in and have obtained a boarding pass. Only passengers are allowed beyond the security screening point, into the departure lounge. Also, note that there’s no Qantas Club or Virgin Lounge facility at the airport.

At present, seven air carriers serve Mount Isa Airport. Airnorth, Alliance Airlines, Qantas (and its QantasLink-operated airline), Regional Express Airlines, Skytrans Airlines, Virgin Australia, and West Wing Aviation fly to several destinations within Australia, including Cairns, Brisbane, Darwin, Gold Coast, Townsville, Cloncurry, Hughenden, Julia Creek, Richmond, Karumba, Normanton, Quilpie, Toowoomba, Windorah, Charleville, Doomadgee, Gununa, Bedourie, Birdsville, Boulia, and Burketown.
