Iquique Airport

The Diego Aracena International Airport (IQQ) services the capital of the Tarapaca Region of northern Chile, Iquique. The airport is located 40km south of Iquique, right on the coast, looking out onto the Pacific Ocean.

The population of the city is less than 200,000, so this airport isn’t huge, and has only one terminal building. There is a café within the airport on the second level, called Restaurant Costa Cavancha, which serves sandwiches, drinks and even ice cream, perfect if you need to grab something quick before your flight. There are a few shops where you can buy cosmetics, fragrances and confectionary, as well as local souvenirs if you want to bring something back for your loved ones.

The main airlines that fly out of IQQ are Sky Airlines, LAN Airlines, Aerolineas Argentinas, TAM, Avianca and Amaszonas. Most of these airlines operate flights to other parts of Chile, particularly to the international hub of Santiago (SCL), though it should be noted that the Diego Araceno International Airport does offer some flights to the neighbouring countries of Bolivia and Argentina. If you want to go further afield, you must transfer in Santiago (SCL) to connect to destinations across most of South America, and locations in North America and Europe.

The information provided above is accurate as of March 3, 2016.
