Honolulu International Airport

Honolulu International Airport is the main gateway of the City & County of Honolulu and the state of Hawaii via air. It is also one of the busiest airports in the United States, serving an average of 20 million passengers a year. Located in the Honolulu census-designed place 5km (3 miles) northwest of Oahu's central business district, the Honolulu International Airport serves as the primary hub of the largest Hawaiian-based airline, the Hawaiian Airline. The airport also serve flights to major United States and international airlines, and also offers direct flights to American, Asian, and Pacific Rim destinations. It has four major runways with the principal runway, 8R/26L, also known as the world's first major runway entirely constructed offshore, and two offshore runways, 8E/26W and 4W/22W for use by seaplanes.


Honolulu International Airport houses 3 terminals – Commuter Terminal (Gates 62-80) which serves smaller airlines, Interisland Terminal (Gates 49-61) that mainly serves the interisland as well as some US mainland flights, and the Main Overseas Terminal (Gates 6-34) that serves US domestic and international destinations.

Terminal transfers can be done through the Honolulu International Airport's free transportation for passengers. Catch a bus on the 3rd level of the Overseas Terminal to either Ewa or Diamond Head Concourses then ride escalators or elevators to get to 3rd floor which is the departure area. Arriving passengers in the Ewa and Diamond Head Concourses can catch a bus outside of their gates back to the main terminal or to the Interisland Terminal. There are signs posted at the curb side on the ground level to show the location of the bus stops. Buses operate daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Arrival area is at the 2nd level of the Overseas and Interisland Terminals and the ground level of the Commuter Terminal. There are signs that can be widely seen that direct to the baggage claim, ground transportation, and intra-terminal transportation.

The whole terminal complex has 24 hour medical services, restaurants and dining areas, shopping centres, as well as business centre with conference rooms for private use. There is also an option for various short- and long-term parking structures on the grounds of the airport.

There are wide choices of hotels to stay in at Honolulu. TheBus routes 19, 20, and 31 stop on the upper lever (departure) of the airport. Route 19 connects the airport to Pearlridge Centre, Route 20 connects the airport to Hickam AFE, while both routes leads to Downtown Honolulu, Ala Moana Centre, and Waikiki. Route 31 connects the airport to Tripler Army Medical Centre through the Kahili Transit Centre, whereas, routes 9, 40, 40A, and 62 run on Nimitz Highway, walking distance of the airport.

To get to the Honolulu Airport, enter the H-1 Freeway westbound. Stay in the right lanes after the Likelike Off-ramp and take the H-1 Freeway cut-off. Stay in the right lane for approximately 1 mile. Take the Airport Off-ramp.
