Fort De France Airport

You’ll find that the Martinique Aimé Césaire International Airport is the premier international air travel hub for the island of Martinique, a French region situated in the heart of the Caribbean Sea. Opened in 1950 and named for the famed Martinique poet and politician Aimé Césaire, this airport has served Fort de France, the capital of Martinique, for over 50 years.

Located only 10km from the city centre, FDF is a convenient to reach by rented car or taxi. There is one main terminal, which is fully air-conditioned. You will also find that there are tourist information desks, a vaccination bureau, banking and currency exchange services, a florist, a hair dresser, two hotels just off-site, and a pharmacy. If you want to surf the net, you can connect to the airport’s free wireless Internet, though be warned this is only free-of-charge for 30 minutes.

There are several cafes you can pick up food in, such as The Tarmac Café, Paradise Ice, the Green Diamond and the Air Lounge Café. For fast food you can pop into Burger King, and if you’re after something a little more fancy, there is the Roucou. For shopaholics wanting to make the most of the duty-free shopping, you can find stores selling fragrances, cosmetics, reading materials, electronics, as well as locally sourced food, arts and crafts.

As an international airport you will find that FDF Airport welcomes flights from North America, and many of the nearby Caribbean nations that surround it.
