Chiang Mai International Airport is an airport located in Northern Thailand, and is the fourth busiest airport in the country. A single-runway airport, it is located around 11km by road from Chiang Mai city centre - a journey which takes around 10-15 minutes by car, depending on the traffic.

Chiang Mai International Airport Information

Chiang Mai International Airport has two terminals - A domestic and an international, and both are housed in the same terminal building. Thai Airways, Singapore Airlines, Bangkok Airways, AirAsia, Nok Air, as well as a range of other airlines all have travel agent desks and customer service facilities at the airport.

Chiang Mai Airport is well equipped with a range of passenger facilities and services, including several food outlets, two coffee shops, a deli, and a fast food outlet. There are also several currency exchange desks and ATMs located in the terminal buildings, for those who need to change money or withdraw cash as well. There is a post office located on the first floor in the arrivals area, as well as a medical centre on level 2 (open from 8am-11pm). There is a smoking room located on level 2 of the international departures area, as well as a Muslim prayer room (also on level 2), open from 7am to 10pm.

For those interested in a spot of shopping before or after their flight, there are shops selling local handicrafts, silk, fresh produce and souvenirs to take home with you. Free Wi-Fi is also available throughout the airport.

Travel Information

There are a number of road transport options to and from Chiang Mai Airport, including taxis, tricycles, public transport, car hire, and limousine transport. To make things more convenient for passengers, there are transportation service counters located on the 1st floor, opposite the domestic and international arrival lounges. There are currently no rail services in the area.

Those wishing to use tricycles, minibus, songteaw or tuk-tuks from the airport must do so only after exiting the airport. Taxis can be booked in advance from the taxi counter in the terminal building. Expect to pay around 160 baht (approx. $6 AUD) to Chiang Mai city centre from the airport. Many hotels in Chiang Mai also offer complimentary transport to and from the airport via limousine or shuttle bus to many of their guests, so check in advance with your accommodation provider.

Those wishing to hire a car from Chiang Mai Airport can also do so by booking online in advance, or by visiting one of the car rental desks located within the terminal buildings. Providers include Budget, Avis, Sixt, Avis and Europcar.
