Chakcharan Airport

Serving the city of Chaghcharan, the capital of Ghor Province in Afghanistan, makes it relatively manageable for travellers to reach the city from Kabul and Herat. Those looking for it on the map will find it between 34.5330009 (latitude) and 65.2669983 (longitude). The Hari River is also near its location just to its southern side at an altitude of 2,230 metres above sea level. Its runway, measuring 6,600 ft long, accommodates small- to medium-sized planes operated by the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) and the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF).

A home to mostly Dari (Persian) speakers, this place makes an interesting place to visit due to its cultural significance. One of the attractions here is the Minaret of Jam, a UNESCO World Heritage site, which was constructed during the Ghurid Dynasty. Tourists will also hear in the area the Voice of Peace Radio, the first independent FM radio station in this area of the country. Lack of development plagues the area, however, as the people protest about their major concerns such as the lack of paved roads and electricity.

Services and Facilities

The airlines serving here are East Horizon Airlines and Afghan Jet International that take passengers between Herat and Kabul.

It is recommended that travellers get their plans and bags ready, so they have enough for the trip.
