Cheap Flights In and Out of Austin

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS)

If you are planning to fly either in or out of Austin, the capital of Texas, then you will do so out of the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS). Once the Bergstrom Air Force Base, this airport opened to the public in 1999, and has functioned as the primary facility for the city and its surrounding areas. It is located a mere stone’s throw from the central part of Austin, at only 8km from the downtown area, and linked with regular and efficient public transport.

This airport now handles well over 10 million people per calendar year, and offers over 40 non-stop flights to destinations all over the USA, and out to Europe and Central America. If you transit through here, you will be able to access a wide range of amenities. If you have a mobile device you will be able to connect to the free WiFi provided throughout the airport, and if you do not, then you can use the internet kiosks dotted around the terminal building -- also free-of-charge.

ATMs, and currency exchange services are available to passengers, as well as information desks, shoe-shine stations, and even massage booths. For dining, there are a healthy number of options to choose from here, from snack counters, restaurants, fast-food outlets, bars and pubs. Try the celebrated Tex-Mex cuisine, or sit down with some southern fried chicken. For shopping there are shops that sell electronics, cosmetics, books, flowers, and duty-free goods, all of which will keep any shopaholic busy during a layover.

Known as the City of Music in the USA, you’ll also be charmed by the live music that plays in various venues throughout the airport to bring life to that reputation.

Hop on flights to Austin with airlines like Delta, United, American Airlines, Qantas, China Airlines, and Air New Zealand.

Travel Information

·         The drive into town is pretty straightforward, you simply get onto the TX-71 W, and then take the US-183 N, then East 7th Street to Congress Avenue to get into town. It shouldn’t take more than about 20 minutes all together. There are a couple of ways you can rent a car; the first is to secure your reservation when you arrive at the airport by heading to the baggage reclaim area where all the car companies operate. The second way is to organise a vehicle online with our price comparison tool, which will give you the option to choose from all available agencies.

·         The buses will only take you a little longer to get into town, roughly 30 minutes, and cost less than 2USD. There are also shared-van rides, and though the price is higher—18USD($24)—the service is door-to-door. You may be able to find a cheaper airport transfer online, and it is worth double checking, especially if you are travelling with a fair amount of luggage or with your family.

·         There are several cab companies that serve this airport, and you can grab a taxi right outside the terminal buildings. The fare should come to about 25USD ($33) without counting tip.
