Izmir Airport

The Izmir Adnan Mederes Airport (ADB) functions as one of Turkey’s most important airports, linking the third largest city in the nation—Izmir—to destinations both international and domestic. Named for Adnan Menderes, former prime minister of Turkey, this public airport sees well over 12 million passengers utilise its services. This facility is made up of two terminals that are linked via a walkway, and it is conveniently located 18km from the centre of the town, making the journey to and from Izmir quick and easy.

The amenities are nothing to sneeze at either, with ATMs available throughout the airport, as well as a full service bank and currency exchange service located in the international terminal. Passengers can access WiFi with their mobile devices, but be aware that this service is only free for those travelling through the international side of the airport. You will still be able to access the WiFi, but this will be for a fee.

There are a few options when it comes to food, with travellers able to choose from a sit-down restaurant, café and a bar. There are also a number of fast-food chains and popular coffee outlets like Café Nero, Burger King, and Sbarro. For shopping, you can duck into the duty-free shops and pick up cosmetics, fragrances and alcohol, or you can browse the fashion, souvenirs, and local gourmet food goods at the other shops in the terminals.

Extras include a lounge, a first aid centre, a prayer room, and a couple of information desks.

Getting to Izmir can be done via a number or carriers. If you’re travelling from Australia you can book connecting flights with Turkish Airlines, Qantas, Emirates, Singapore Airlines, Etihad Airways, British Airways, China Southern, Garuda Indonesia, and many more.

Travel Information

·         Travellers looking to hire a car can do so easily at the airport, or in advance using our car hire search tools. The drive into the city should take you about 20-25 minutes. Just get onto the Akçay Cd./D550 to Mürselpaşa Blv. in İzmir. Then take the exit toward Basmane/Şehir Merkezi from Yeşildere Cd./D300/D550, then merge onto Mürselpaşa Blv to get to Izmir central.

·         Travellers can get on the Metro and head into the centre of the city with ease from this airport, though services only run from 5:00am ‘til 12:00am. The fare is less than 2TRY (75 cents) though, so it is a cheap and cheerful mode of transport.

·         Buses also run services, and these can be found outside the terminal buildings. Look for routes 200, 202 and 204, and shouldn’t cost you anymore than 4TRY ($1.50).

·         You will be able to find a taxi no matter what time you arrive into Izmir, and this a popular way to get into town. Be aware you will usually have to bargain for the price of the fare, but we recommend aiming for about 45TRY ($17) altogether. If you’d rather skip the hassle of haggling, you can pre-arrange a private transfer with Skyscanner.
