 Accra Airport

The Kotoka International Airport (ACC) is the most important aviation facility for the country of Ghana, and is situated right in the capital, Accra. Named for General Emmanuel Kwasi Kotoka, a key figure in the liberation of Ghana, this airport sees roughly 2.5 million people travel through its two terminals, and serves as an operation base for Antrak Air, Africa World Airlines, and Starbow Airlines.

Only 10km from the city centre, this airport was a military facility before it converted to its present state as a commercial hub. In 2014, a new arrival hall was constructed to add extra immigration booths, baggage carousels, air conditioner, and 10 new e-gates.

In terms of amenities, you will find that there are several ATMs scattered throughout the airport, and a bureau de change service. Passengers will also be able to access a post office, public telephones, and WiFi. There are also customer service desks where you can get helpful information on the airport, or the city.

There are a few restaurants, and a bar that you can grab refreshments in after security. There isn’t much in the way of shops, but you will find duty-free outlets where you can buy goods like tobacco, alcohol and cosmetics.

There are select carriers that fly to Accra from Australia, and these are Singapore Airlines, Qantas, South African Airways, Arik Air, Ethiopian Airlines, Kenya Airways, Thai Airways, Qatar Airways, and Emirates.

Travel Information

·         Take Liberation Road and then the Ring Road East, to Okodan Road, and you’ll find yourself in the middle of Osu. There are a couple of well known car hire brands that operate out of this airport, though it is often easier to book a vehicle online.

·         Taxis are really the only way to get from the airport to Accra central, unless you hire a car or organise a private airport transfer online. These can be found outside the Arrivals Hall, but be advised that many of them will not have meters, so usually you will have to agree on a fare before you depart. Aim for a price between 30 and 40GHS ($9-12), and expect the journey to take 20-40 minutes depending on the traffic.
