Why Fly With Alitalia

Ways To Check-In

Alitalia offers a number of ways for passengers to check in, as this process can be done online, over the phone, through a mobile app, or at the airport. Online and mobile check in opens up to 30 hours before your flight departure, though usually you’ll find that you can access this feature 24 hours ahead of your flight. Phone check in is only available to passengers who are carrying hand luggage and not checking any bags, and the service opens four hours before departure, and closes again 50 minutes pre-flight. At the airport you can use either the fast-check kiosks or the staffed counters, just be sure to leave enough time to check in; around an hour for domestic flights and at least two hours for international ones.

Baggage Allowance & Fees

If you are flying with another airline for part of your journey, you must adhere to their specific baggage guidelines.

On Alitalia, you can take one piece of cabin baggage onboard, this must be within 55xm x 35cm x 25cm dimensions, and be less than 8kg. You may also bring a personal item, but this should be something like a handbag, laptop or briefcase.

Checked baggage varies depending on your cabin class and your destination and it is important to check with Alitalia what your individual restrictions are before you fly. However, generally speaking you will be allowed to bring either one or two pieces of checked baggage that can weigh up to either 23kg or 32kg. Overweight or extra baggage will be subject to extra charges at the airport.

When booking your flight you will be able to make a seat choice, though you may be moved if there is an operational need for the airline to do so.

Booking Fees

Those who are purchasing flights online via the Alitalia website can purchase using their credit cards and PayPal.

In-Flight Service

Alitalia’s onboard cuisine has won awards from the Global Traveler Magazine for the quality of its menu and dining service. If you fly with this airline you will be treated to a delicious Italian meal while cruising among the clouds. If you have specific dietary requirements, please call the airline at least 24 hours ahead of time to book your special meal.

Alitalia provides its passengers with entertainment no matter which cabin class you are in, providing its flyers with magazines, as well as screens either individually fitted with the seating or mounted to the craft ceiling showing documentaries, blockbuster movies and music programming to keep you occupied while heading to your destination.

If you have a child travelling alone between the ages of 5 and 14, you can also book in an Unaccompanied Minor service. This must be reserved and paid for, and you should do this directly through the airline.

On-Time Performance
