SriLankan Airlines is the flag carrier of Sri Lanka. It is based out of Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo. As of July 2013, SriLankan Airlines serves 64 destinations in 34 countries, and remains the largest foreign carrier into the Maldives, with at least 38 weekly flights between Male and Colombo. SriLankan Airlines is also considering Gan as a destination. Since September 2012, SriLankan Airlines no longer runs its service to Switzerland. It is expected that in 2014, SriLankan Airlines will be adding Sydney to its list of destinations. The biggest hub of SriLankan Airlines is at the Bandaranaike International Airport, while Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport operates as a stop for Bangkok, Beijing, Male, Riyadh, and Shanghai flights.
How to Check In
Apart from the SriLankan Airlines baggage check-in desks found at airports, SriLankan Airlines has also provided an online check-in service that can be accessed through the SriLankan Airlines website.
Baggage Allowance & Fees
Baggage allowance for SriLankan Airlines follows standards just like any other airline. For checked baggage, the maximum weight per piece of luggage should not exceed 32kg. However, if a passenger's checked in baggage has exceeded the maximum weight, charges will apply. SriLankan Airlines passengers who will be bringing hand baggage are given a limit of 2 pieces of hand luggage for Business Class that will not exceed the dimensions of 18"x14"x6" and not weighing more than 7kg each or any combination of both. For Economy Class passengers, they are allowed 1 piece of hand luggage that does not measure more than 18"x14"x6" and does not weigh more than 7kg each. Other than hand carried luggage, the following can be considered free carry-on items that can be brought it along to the cabin: one lady's handbag, purse or pocket book, one overcoat, wrap or blanket, one umbrella or walking stick, one small camera or one pair of binoculars, infant's food for inflight consumption together with infant's toiletries and disposable items such as nappies, and an infant's carrying basket or fully collapsible stroller.
Seating for SriLankan Airlines follows three sectors. First Class seating will be available for the upcoming Airbus A330-300 and Airbus A350 XWB aircrafts. Business class seats come in either cream or dark blue and depend on the aircraft. Business Class passengers have access to over 30 movie titles in a variety of languages available and can pre-order special meals. Economy Class passengers are provided an individual video player with 18 movies and 22 radio channels.
Online payments can be processed and paid via credit card.
SriLankan Airlines flights have access to "Satcom" satellite phone that allows a passenger to call anyone in another seat free of charge. Meals are also provided for flights and can be specifically prepared according to a passenger’s request.
